Adventure in Guatemala
Sound: The buzz of a quiet street, dogs barking faintly in the background, the odd car passing nearby. Birds chatter.
Motion: A coffee shop sign swings gently in the breeze.
Coffee adventurers; welcome to the heartland of the Maya. Guatemala is one of the most culturally vibrant countries in Central America with 12 million people speaking 23 languages.
Sound: The balloon's burners fire up. More birdsong can be heard.
Motion: The balloon rises gently into the air, above the forest canopy.

Motion: The balloon continues to rise as it glides past a volcano and then over some crop fields.
Guatemala has over 700 coffee farms - many of them with organic plantations 5000ft up on the slopes of Sierra Madre. The volcanic soil gives the roots a fine start in life, while the pure air makes sure the beans are clean living and never touched by pesticides.

The Mayan ruins of Tikal are hidden deep in the rainforests of Guatemala. From the air only a handful of temples and palaces peek through the canopy...
Sound: Birds and howler monkeys can be heard.
Motion: The balloon touches down gently. A parrot swoops by past the temple as a monkey leaps off the ruins and into the jungle.
Welcome to Tikal - the lost city of the Mayas. We are told that 1,200 years ago it was once home to 100,000 people... now engulfed b jungle the only inhabitants are wild animals and birds.
Sound: Birds and howler monkeys can be heard.
Motion: The view zooms in to a rug with a picnic on it. A monkey reaches out, grabbing a bag off coffee. It peers out from behind a rock, before disappearing into the thick forest.
Stop for a picnic here among the ruins. Guatemala coffee has a wonderfully seductive flavour with overtones of dark chocolate mixed with fruit. There's a delicate and refined aroma and a finish comparable to a great wine. Listen to the howler monkeys as they serenade you with their wondrous racket. Be warned - they may nick your picnic as payment!
